Il s'éteint à 24 ans, victime d'une attaque cardiaque1,2 en plein match (Benfica - Vitoria Guimarães), juste après s'être vu infliger un carton jaune par l'arbitre3,4.
Le club du Benfica Lisbonne a décidé de ne plus jamais attribuer le numéro 29 que portait ce joueur, afin de lui rendre hommage.
